Samsung Galaxy S III Rumored With 2.0GHz Quad-Core CPU
We’ll just get this out of the way and tell you the following information comes from a “source” otherwise known as an absolutely unknown individual over at 4chan. In other words, the following information is completely unconfirmed and yet equally interesting at the same time. This individual talks about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus/Prime, Ice Cream Sandwich and the as of yet totally unknown Samsung Galaxy S III. According to his record of events, a Samsung rep came into his workplace showing off the new Nexus Galaxy device and slides of what the next evolution of the Galaxy S series will look like in 2012. Let’s get right down to the nitty gritty:
Galaxy Nexus
The device is called the Galaxy Nexus and not the Galaxy Prime which is a name we’ve heard before and isn’t the first time someone has suggested that “Galaxy Nexus” is the shipping name. Looking similar to the Galaxy S II but with a curved screen similar to the Nexus S. It’s a Verizon “exclusive” which is the reason Verizon passed on the Galaxy S II. It has a 4.65″ HD display 1280×720, 1 GB of Ram, 16GB internal storage, SD card slot, 8.8mm thick and has a 2000mAh battery.
Now let’s just be honest here and say that none of these details are new and completely in line with information from earlier in the week when The Droid Guy spotted a Galaxy Nexus in the wild. Given that all of this information is basically the same as the TDG leak we aren’t sure if this further validates both sets of information or makes us more suspicious of today’s intel.
Ice Cream Sandwich
The Galaxy Nexus was running Ice Cream Sandwich showing Android 2.4.1 version number. It supposedly “works like Gingerbread” but has undergone a complete face lift with significantly smoother menus, better animations and an overall glassy look. The app drawer has three sections, one for apps, games and widgets. The widget drawer has a preview mode allowing you to see how your widget will appear before you put it there.
Gmail, Google calendar and browsers app are all re-done. Gmail includes panels in landscape view now, similar to how it looks in Honeycomb. The calendar app has received a similar revamp with a blue color scheme and has a less clutter, glassy bluish look along with a new calendar widget. The browser icon has completely been re-done to feature an Android behind the earth which is green and blue and still titled “internet.” The browser now has tabs at the bottom on the screen (similar to Opera Mobile) with better pinch to zoom, better rendering and no checkerboards.
Galaxy S III
There wasn’t a working model of the Galaxy S II available but there were slides and pictures with specs and information about the upcoming model. Samsung is planning to reveal the GSIII at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and is aiming for a worldwide release during the middle of 2012. The specs for the GSIII were specifically discussed as subject to change but is said to come with a 2.0GHz quad-core CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and a 4.65″ screen. A new display titled Super AMOLED III is being developed specifically for the GSIII and has 1280×1024 resolution giving the device a pip of 352 making it the highest pip mobile phone.
The Galaxy S III will be 9mm thick and is said to come with a metal and glass body, a 2250mAh battery, 10 megapixel camera and is capable of shooting 1080p videos at 60 frames per second. There was also be a pre-installed NFC chip along with the latest Ice Cream Sandwich software with an all new TouchWiz 5 interface currently being developed in coordination with Google. TouchWiz is said to play a minor role compared to earlier revisions of TouchWiz which appeared as a total overlay to stock Android.
It’s hard to say what’s real here and what’s not and it’s tough to think that of all places to uncover some of the best rumors we’ve heard in some time it would be a place like 4chan. I certainly wouldn’t go out and buy any lottery tickets based on our luck coming true with these rumors but this is a whole lot of detail for even a random internet troll to write but we’re still putting this under the “mega-rumor” category. Like “mega, mega-rumor category.
