Android tablets No Honeycomb upgrade for 2.x slates
The Google Nexus Tablet might have stolen the headlines this morning, but there’s another tidbit about Google’s Android slate plans that doesn’t make pretty reading for some users. Apparently, the Big G will not allow tablets using Android 2.x to upgrade to Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
The news comes from Eldar Murtazin, who also broke the story about the Nexus Tablet. He says that any such..
upgrades breach Google’s Android licensing agreement, flying in the face of those manufacturers who had previously claimed updates would be available for slates using the non-tablet-optimised version of the OS.Samsung’s original Galaxy Tab is still stranded on Android 2.2 FroYo and is unlikely to get a boost. Meanwhile, the forthcoming HTC Flyer only uses Android 2.4. Although HTC has said it’s working on an update, it now seems unlikely one will be available. That could hamstring its chances of becoming an Android tablet contender considerably
