Frequent users of Twitter pass by a majority of third party applications
Twitter has recently set fire to the powder keg of its ecosystem and announced by the voice of one of its representatives, Ryan Sarver, the Twitter clients (applications based on Twitter API but developed by companies independent of Twitter) were no longer welcome and that the current solutions would be monitored closely. Having built a part of its success and its reputation - especially for developers - on its openness to third-party clients, Twitter just realized, perhaps belatedly, that it was time to do some cleaning in the home, for reasons of consistency, but probably also for financial reasons. Indeed, all traffic that passes through Twitter to third party
customers costs money but does not relate. In any case, not Twitter.
Vs. power users. Occasional users
On the occasion of this announcement, officials from Twitter indicated that 90% of service users of micro-blogging going through a formal application Twitter, which includes the website Twitter.com and its mobile version of m.twitter.com but also mobile applications for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows phone. Applications developed by Twitter, in direct cooperation with manufacturers (BlackBerry), or improved after the purchase of third party applications (the iPhone application Twitter from redemption of Tweetie).
A figure immediately challenged by Sysomos, a company specializing in business analysis and social media, which said in a statistical study published March 15, that 42% of frequent users of Twitter pass through external applications.
Some figures from this analysis Sysomos:
• based on 25 million tweets posted on one day, March 11, 2011
• 58% of applications from official
• 42% from third-party applications
• formal application most used web site Twitter.com (35.4%)
• The second most used application official: iPhone application (8.8%)
• The third most used application: Ubersocial (16.4%)
• The second most used third party application: Tweetie (13.1%)
